INSTITUTIONAL
GFM has developed expertise for architectural projects of an institutional nature. Our know-how has enabled us to carry out several unique projects by exploiting the full potential of public spaces to make them as functional as they are exceptional.
Cité du savoir
Université de Montréal | Laval | 2007
The objective of the Cité du savoir project was to set up a Université de Montréal campus on Laval territory to accommodate more than 10,000 students. In addition to all the key programmatic elements of a university campus with its common areas, public spaces, amphitheatres, library and cafeteria, the project includes three levels of indoor underground parking and is directly linked to the Montmorency metro station. Its architectural signature is the large, sleek and modern interior spaces, not to mention the impressive fenestration throughout the building.

Complexe Multi-Sports
Laval | 2005
Wood is starring in this project, completed in 2004-2005. The structure of this sports complex is entirely made of glued laminated wood. This choice gives a sober elegance to the 11,500 m2 structure. The building houses an indoor soccer field with bleachers that can be subdivided into three tiers. It also includes three gymnasiums, locker rooms, sports services, a food court, a fitness center, a store and administrative offices. The complex facilities also include a synthetic soccer field covered by an inflatable dome. This is connected to an airlock and an attached hangar.
L’Avenir Elementary School
Laval | 2013
GFM Architects was able to demonstrate its know-how in the design and construction of schools with this project, which will be carried out between 2011 and 2013. The interior courtyard plays the role of the institution’s core in the architectural concept realized. All of the elementary school buildings revolve around the courtyard. The Ecole primaire de l’Avenir has 28 classrooms, premises dedicated to day care, a library, a double gymnasium and adjoining changing rooms. The school facilities also include a multi-purpose room with kitchen, a music room, a staff lounge and administrative offices.

Twin Oaks Elementary School
Laval | 2015
The principles of sustainable development have guided all of our architects’ interventions for the design and realization of this primary education institution of the English-speaking community. Brightness and space are at the heart of the architectural concept developed to create an environment conducive to the development of children’s creativity. The school, which has about fifteen classrooms, a gymnasium, a spacious library and daycare facilities, benefits from large windows that let in daylight.
